Thank you for joining us in this Fitness Initiative - we appreciate your efforts to promote fitness for all! Your participation will encourage people of all abilities to challenge themselves to be more fit and will support the APTA Pediatrics Wonderfund, which will help families purchase adaptive equipment to enable their children to reach their full potential.

How Does It Work?

APTA Pediatrics members, non-members, and families are welcome (including parents to help their children of all abilities enroll and participate). Participants will set a goal and move toward that goal (see below for examples). This is a great opportunity to promote our profession during National Physical Therapy Month in October. We welcome clinics and families to participate and raise funds as a team. You could plan a "marathon" of activities and ask for a monetary donation for each "mile"! Choose a name for your team and encourage everyone who enrolls to put the team name on their registration.

Sharing Your Progress and More

We will anonymously compile and recognize the achievements of our participants. As you work toward your goal, let us know how it's going! We'd love to share your stories and photos on social media - share at @acadpedpt on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook or send to us via email at info@pediatricapta.org. (Please note that photos will be public; submitters of photos must have written permission for posting on social media, etc, from all individuals in the photo.) Everyone who submits an update will be entered in a weekly drawing for a free Wonderfund T-shirt!

Fitness Initiative Ideas

Your goal is totally up to you. Consider setting a goal that helps you be more active every day. For example…

  • Do you average 8,000 steps a day? Shoot for 10,000.
  • If you can sit on the floor for 5 seconds, practice each day with a goal of 10 seconds.
  • Do you use a gait trainer for 10 min daily? Make it 12!
  • Own a bike or trike? How much farther could you go each time you ride?
  • Running 5 miles per week? Make it 8.
  • Does 5 minutes a day of seated exercise keep you strong? Challenge yourself to do 7.
  • Does your child play on the floor? Set a goal to spend 5 more minutes each day playing with them.
  • Do you have a baby? Learn some parent/baby yoga and practice every day.
