The Early Intervention Special Interest Group (EI-SIG) was formally established at CSM, 2007.  The purpose of the SIG is to provide an arena where Section and Association members who have a common interest in providing effective physical therapy services for children with disabilities in early intervention may confer, meet, and promote high standards of practice.

SIG News

  • The first annual membership meeting will be held at CSM, 2008 in Nashville, TN on Saturday, Feb 9, from 7:00 to 8:00 am. Please join us at the inaugural meeting to share your ideas, network with others, provide input regarding your issues and concerns, and learn more about early intervention. On this web page, look under SIG Leadership for a listing of newly appointed regional representatives. The primary role of these representatives is to provide members with opportunities for improved communication and to enhance direct participation of members in SIG development and activities. As always, feel free to contact your regional representative or any member of the leadership team if you are interested in actively participating in SIG activities.
  • Current activities of the EI-SIG include establishing EI resources for pediatric PTs working in early intervention, appointing regional representation, developing plans to host an early intervention continuing education course similar to the school-based therapy course, and addressing current and emerging practice issues. The EI course is scheduled to be held Summer, 2008 in the Chicago area. Stay tuned for further information regarding programming and registration. This past summer the newly developed EI-SIG played an integral role in representing perspectives of pediatric physical therapists by participating in public hearing comments and written recommendations in conjunction with the Section's and APTA's Government Affairs Committees.  The comments were presented in response to proposed IDEA Part C regulations by the US Department of Education.
