Anniversary
Award
The Anniversary
Award was created to recognize members of the Section on
Pediatrics who have made outstanding, visionary contributions
in an area of pediatric physical therapy, including practice,
research, mentoring, or leadership. Nominees should be a
current APTA member age 55 or over, and should not have
received the Bud DeHaven Award, Jeanie Fischer Award, or
Jeanne Hughes Award. Nominees may have received a research
award. The nominee does not have to be a former Section
on Pediatrics officer, a clinical specialist, or living
to receive the award.
The Anniversary Award was first presented
in 2003, in conjunction with the Section's 30th Anniversary,
and was presented to 30 individuals; henceforth, one award
will be presented per year at the Combined Sections Meeting.
A plaque with the names of all winners will be housed in
the Executive Office of the Section, and the awardees will
receive a $100 check.

Section on Pediatrics Advocacy Award
The Advocacy Award honors a member of the Section on Pediatrics who has made an outstanding contribution to pediatric physical therapy, including leadership in the areas of advocacy and government affairs at the regional, state, or national level.

Outstanding Pediatric Clinician Award: PT and PTA
The purpose of the Outstanding Pediatric Clinician Award is to recognize two Section members, a physical therapist and a physical therapist assistant, whose clinical practice exemplifies the work and dedication of pediatric physical therapy practice with children and families. These awards will be presented at the annual Combined Sections Meeting and each recipient will receive a check for $100 and a plaque.

Distinguished
Service Award
This award
was created to honor outstanding and substantial contributions
to pediatrics by an individual outside the Section or
by an institution independent of the Section on Pediatrics.

Office for more information. The award is presented
to the recipient at the Section's Awards Reception during
the Combined Sections Meeting

"Bud" DeHaven Award
Nominations
are being sought from Section on Pediatrics members for
the Bud DeHaven Award for extraordinary service to the
Section. The award is named for the first Section Chair,
Bud DeHaven, and has been given since 1978. A plaque and
$100 is presented to the award winner.
The Section is
interested in nominations from the membership. Send a
letter with supporting information describing the nominee
and his/her contributions to the Executive
Office by November 1. The award is presented to the
recipient at the Section's Awards Reception during the
Combined Sections Meeting

Jeanne Fischer Distinguished Mentorship Award
Nominations
are being sought from the Section on Pediatrics members
for the Jeanne Fischer Distinguished Mentorship Award.
This award was created to recognize contributions in mentorship
and clinical teaching. Section membership shall nominate
a member for this award for significant, sustained contributions
to pediatric physical therapy by mentoring and assisting
less experienced colleagues in professional development. The award is presented to the recipient at the Section's Awards Reception during the Combined Sections Meeting

Memorial Fund Scholarship
The Memorial
Fund Scholarship was created in 2003 to fund pediatric
physical therapists who wish to become Pediatric Clinical
Specialists and to honor those physical therapists who
are no longer with us but have made a lasting impression
on the field of physical therapy. The first honoree is
Carol Dichter.
The Memorial Fund Scholarship Committee
shall select, from among nominations submitted by Section
membership, an active member of the Section to receive
this $1000 scholarship award (two awards will be given
in 2007 and three in 2008). This
money is to be used to fund the member during professional
development activities and may be used to pay for PCS
exam fees, attendance at the Advanced Clinical Practice
Course, or continuing education credits.
Nominees must
be active or life members of the Section on Pediatrics
and be interested in becoming a Certified Clinical Specialist
in Pediatrics. Each nominator shall send a completed nomination
form, a curriculum vita of the nominee, and reasons why
the nominee is best suited for this award. The award will be presented at the Section’s Business Meeting at APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting each year.

Linda Crane Memorial Lecture Award
Nominations are being sought
from the Sections on Pediatrics, Education or Cardiovascular
and Pulmonary for the Linda Crane Memorial Lecture Award.
This award was created to recognize individuals who have
demonstrated excellence in either clinical practice, academic
practice or in the area of research and who have demonstrated
contributions to the Association through state, section
or national involvement.
The award is named for Dr. Linda
Crane, whose clinical practice specialty was in the area
of pediatric cardiovascular and pulmonary therapy.
The
recipient of the award will provide a one hour presentation
at Combined Sections Meeting, followed by a written copy
of the speech to be published, and will receive a monetary
award of $500.

Research
Award
The Research
Award is given in recognition of a Section on Pediatrics
member who has performed sustained and outstanding basic,
clinical, and/or education research pertaining to pediatric
physical therapy. Evidence must be given that the published
body of research materials makes a meaningful contribution
to the scientific basis of pediatric physical therapy.
In addition,
evidence of one or more of the following should be provided:
1) oral presentations and written articles of the research
have been reported to the appropriate audiences, 2) an
active attempt to foster research of others, and 3) work
has been recognized by receipt of grants.
Submissions
should be sent to the Executive
Office electronically by November 1, and should include
both the name and address of the nominee. The award is
presented to the recipient at the Section's Awards Reception
during the Combined Sections Meeting.
Thesis/Dissertation
Award
The Thesis Award is given
as recognition to an active or student member of the Section
on Pediatrics who has completed an outstanding research
project as partial fulfillment for a master's degree.
The Dissertation Award is
given as recognition to an active or student member of
the Section on Pediatrics who has completed an outstanding
research project as partial fulfillment for a post-professional
doctoral degree.
Submit the following electronically,
by e-mail or by mailing a disk:
- A cover letter
- A copy of the abstract containing identifying information.
- A copy of the study abstract with all identifying
information deleted (do not just change the font color).
- Evidence that the thesis or dissertation was completed
within the past 2 years
- A discussion of the relevance of the research to
the practice of physical therapy
After screening, an electronic
copy of the thesis or dissertation may be requested for
review by the Research Committee. Submit abstracts to
the Executive Office by November 1. The thesis and dissertation awards are
presented to the recipients at the Section's Awards Reception
during the Combined Sections Meeting.

Dissertation Awards to the Chair
of the Research Committee.
