This course will include an overview of the anatomical and physiological mechanisms of vestibular system function, the incidence of clinical testing of vestibular function and related impairments in children, and intervention strategies.
Lecture, demonstration and practice will be provided.
Laboratory/practice sessions will enable participants to gain experience in clinical testing and intervention techniques for use in their clinical practice.
Upon completion of this course, you'll be able to:
Describe the anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system in lay terms.
Discuss development of the vestibular system.
Discuss the clinical significance of diagnostic tests of vestibular function in pediatrics.
Select and perform appropriate tests to examine the impact of vestibular dysfunction.
Differentiate between a central and peripheral lesion.
Select and perform appropriate intervention techniques to improve functional abilities based on identification of vestibular related impairments for children.
