Section on Pediatrics Research Grant Program
Clinical research grants are available to Section on Pediatrics members to assist with a 1-year research study that investigates a question or questions of importance to pediatric physical therapy. Planning grants also are available following Section on Pediatrics research summits to develop a multi-site study on the topic of the summit to be submitted for external funding. The purposes of the grants are to provide funding to assist physical therapist investigators and to encourage research that will add to the body of knowledge related to pediatric physical therapy.
Categories of awards: Award categories include mentored research grants (for researchers who have not previously been principal investigators on an internal or external research grant), clinical research grants, planning grants, and "large" research grants. Available grants are announced each year.
Amounts of awards: Mentored research grants and research grants fund up to $10,000 per proposal. Planning grants and "large" research grants fund up to $30,000 per proposal. All budgets will be rigorously reviewed and require strong justification for proposed expenditures. Investigators are encouraged to budget only essential amounts and not the maximum. Grant recipients must submit a full accounting of expenditures with the final report and return any unexpended funds to the Section. Travel for dissemination is not permitted on SOP research grants.
Submission deadlines: The submission deadlines for mentored research grants are April 1 and September 1. Proposals for the other grants are due September 1.
Proposals must be e-mailed as a PDF that includes all required documents in one file on the due date (or by the following Monday if the due date falls on a weekend) to be eligible for review. To apply, send two electronic (PDF) copies of your proposal, one with identifying information (author names, place of research, etc) and one with all identifying information deleted (do not just change the font color) to the Section on Pediatrics' Executive Office at pediatrics@apta.org.
